Climate Activist Greta Thunberg has made a plea for transportation support to help her turn the half way around the world towards the cancelled Chile to Spain
After a disruption by Chile’s annoucement to abruptly cancel the plan to host the 25th UN Climate Talks, the Conference of Parties’s bureau has managed to agree that the coming UN Climate Talks will take place in Madrid of Spain.
The UNFCCC issued the statement last night that said; “We are pleased to announce the COP Bureau has agreed that COP25 will take place from 2-13 December in IFEMA – Feria de Madrid in Madrid, Spain.”
Earlier, UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa issued a statement saying she was informed by the Government of Chile acting as incoming Presidency that they received a generous offer of support from the Government of Spain to hold COP25 in Madrid on the same dates as originally planned.
“We are hopeful that the COP Bureau can consider this proposed solution as soon as possible,” Mrs Espinosai earlier said of the procedure, remaining hopeful and said it was encouraging to see countries working together in the spirit of multilateralism to address climate change, the biggest challenge facing this and future generations.
The conference is highly expected to achieve sharp ambitions to cut greenhouse gases in a race against the rapid rise of the global temperature.
The UN Climate Action held in New York in late September had galvalised action that resulted in 77 countries having committed to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, and other 70 countries more having announced they would either boost their national action plans by 2020 or have started the process of doing so.
These are about to be brought for further talks at the conference where the rule book would be further discussed.
The abruptive move has prompted Climate activist Greta Thunberg to adjust her plan too as she has actually already travelled to the place that she said “being half around the world but in the wrong way”
She made a plea on her FB page for help on transportation last night.
“As COP25 has officially been moved from Santiago to Madrid I’ll need some help.
“It turns out I’ve traveled half around the world, the wrong way:) Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November… If anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful,” Greta posted on her FB page.
The activist has also met Hollywood Superstar Leonardo Dicaprio for the first time as he openly admired what she has been doing.
Leo posted on his FB page saying “There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time.”
The Superstar-turned-conservation activist Leo went on, making a remark that history will judge people for what they do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same livable planet that they have so clearly taken for granted.
“I hope that Greta’s message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over. It is because of Greta, and young activists everywhere that I am optimistic about what the future holds. It was an honor to spend time with Greta,” said Leo, without revealing where they met.
Leo has also revealed that he and Greta have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for the planet.
