The updated regulation will see some restrictions eased on dining-in in restaurants in the strictest control areas, including Bangkok, while other businesses and activities will remain almost the same

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), chaired by PM Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, has resolved to ease the Covid-19 situation administration zoning, which will see only four provinces, Bangkok and its peripheries, placed under the maximum and strict control zone, while  17 more under the maximum control zone, and the rest of 56 controlled zone.

The new adjustment of the disease control zoning is aimed at helping some businesses to go on although the infection rate of Covid-19 remains high.

The regulation No. 23, which was issued under Section 9 of the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations B.E. 2548 (2005), was published in the Royal Gazette last night and will come into effect from tomorrow onwards.

It has readjusted the Covid-19 situation administration zoning, leaving only four provinces; be they Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, and Samut Prakan to be in the maximum and strict control zone, or the Dark Red zone. 17 more provinces will then be placed under the maximum control zone, while the rest of 56 provinces will be under the controlled zone.

The government before the Songkran holiday had refused to declare disease control zoning, but after Songkran, it decided to impose the zoning, with 18 provinces placed under the maximum control zone, and 59 more under the controlled zone as the new UK variant was fast spreading.

It then reinforced the zoning starting from May 1 onwards, which saw Bangkok and some other five provinces placed under the maximum and strict control zone, with no dining-in allowed in restaurants, a ban on gatherings of no more than 20 people, as well as strict domestic trips out of the zone.

And last night, the newly revised zoning will replace the previous one to help ease pressure on the economy although the infection rate is still high.

Under these three zones, different degrees of restrictions on various activities and venues will be imposed from tomorrow onwards.
